Ducati S2R 1000 is launched, bringing back together the exotic looks of a super bike powered S4R's tubular-alloy, single-sided swinggarm, five-spoke Marchesini wheels and twin exhaust silencers with a pedestrian air-cooled 800cc Desmodue power plant. The bike has 992cc Dual Spark engine, delivering 50-foot-pounds by 3000 rpm, with a nice 61 ft.-lb. peak at 6200 revs and is priced at $9995.

An experience of the first near-2g launch on the Harley Davidson VRSXC Screamin' Eagle V-Rod Destroyer at California Speedway's NHRA-sanctioned quarter-mile dragstrip in Fontana is described. The bike has a MTC multi-stage lockup clutch with a 165-horse V-Rod Twin cracking like nuclear thunder.
