The bank should be approached slowly and quietly to avoid scaring the fish. Other tips are given.

Trout fishing in the cold waters of early spring with spinners can be a tricky proposition. Anglers are advised to work a spinner slowly near the bottom of a slack water section of a stream. If the water is unclear, a brightly colored spinner with a noise component should be used.
