Frozen in time

Article Abstract:

Wood Buffalo National Park is a 17,000-sq mi wilderness area that straddles both Alberta and Canada's Northwest Territories. The park is a rarely-visited sanctuary for wood bison. Wolves, bears, lynx and other wildlife also live in the region. One man's visit to the park is recounted.

Saving Montana's sweet grass hills: mountains may be moved if a mining company is allowed to dig for gold

Article Abstract:

Sweet Grass Hills, MT, is a popular backpacking destination and a revered site by Native Americans. However, the hills could be destroyed if EK Lehmann Assoc is allowed to pursue its mining claim for gold exploration. The General Mining Act of 1872 permits such excavation.

The one that gets away: catch-and-release research shows that trout survival depends on that gentle, caring touch

Article Abstract:

Fishers can help preserve and increase the fish population by observing a catch-and-release policy. Fish are more likely to live if fishers use sharp hooks without barbs and if they avoid taking photographs while the fish are out of the water.
