British Columbia banned grizzly bear hunting for three years, beginning in Feb 2001. The government's reason for the ban are questionable, as the grizzly population is plentiful, and the number of grizzlies hunted is minimal. Environmentalists dispute the numbers however.

Tennessee joined 12 other states in June 2001by passing laws protecting albino deer. Thus public sentiment again overrides sensible hunting policy, and perpetuates a recessive genetic strain that nature was on its way to eliminating.
