A back-of-the-pack American runner found to his delight that a running race in Florence, Italy was a pleasure for all. Starting was informal, and there was a refreshment table along the way where runners stopped and chatted. When the race finished no one complained or seemed in a bad mood.

Letting go

Article Abstract:

A husband and wife, after months of training together to prepare to run the Boston Marathon, faced a defining moment in their relationship during the climactic race. The moment in question came when the husband could not finish the race, leaving the wife to finish out their dream alone.

Article Abstract:

A runner describes the transition involved in becoming an actual 'runner,' in contrast with a person who just happens to run. The actual time of change was difficult to pinpoint, but it may have involved a change in attitude and the process of becoming part of the racing community.
