The designs of various steering wheels found on sailboats are discussed. These equipment are connected to wire rope, gears, solid linkage or hydraulic pumps and transfer torque to the rudder. The latest steering gears are made of exotic materials and are very reliable even if they are more expensive.

A Florida sailor recounts how he became attached with a $49 Timberland sandals. When he bought this pair of sandals, he felt robbed because of the price. However, nearly a decade after, he realized the importance of wearing comfortable sandals no matter how much he has to pay for them.
