In their tracks: we all want to take a deer humanely. Here's how to guarantee it

A deer can be taken down easiest by shooting it in the lung. The site is the largest target and such a shot is always fatal. The deer tries to flee as a reflex, and a second shot should not be attempted, as it can cause more damage to the meat.

Experience has proven that it is the first shot that counts in deer hunting, and hunters who plan a careful first shot are more successful than those who rely on fast shooting. It is also much better to attempt a clear shot, rather than one obscured by brush that can deflect the bullet.
