Interpreting VMG

The electronic calculations of velocity made good (VMG) differ among makers. According to GPS, using VMG means being aware first of the definition the receiver is using and where the boat is on the upwind leg. While for other manufacturers, VMG is used to represent the component of speed parallel to a line from point of origin to destination.
