Two types of electronic fuel injection are available for marine engines: throttle-body injection (TBI) and port fuel injection (PFI). TBI is an excellent system for standard applications, while PFI is better for performance engines.

Valve invasion: more is not necessarily better

Four-valve marine engines offer improved gas flow and increased power over a broader speed range. They handle poor-quality fuel better than two-valve engines. However, their major problem in marine use is a lack of peak torque.
