Low back strengthening for the prevention and treatment of low back pain

Article Abstract:

Patients with low back pain have been shown to significantly benefit from progressive resistance exercise, also known as isometrics. Lumbar extension exercise increases strength while decreasing pain. These benefits are long-lasting and decrease the number of hospital visits. Low back strengthening may offer reduced industrial back injuries and their associated costs.

Maximal motor unit discharge rates in the quadriceps muscles of older weight lifters

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to asses maximal motor unit discharge rates in highly resistance-trained older weight lifters and whether this attribute contributes to maximal strength. Results show that in older weight lifters the motor unit discharge rates are greater than those of younger adults and leads to maximal strength buildup.
