Kenyan David Mungai won the first marathon he ever ran, the Twin Cities, which featured a mid-race wedding. Joan Samuelson won her first marathon since 1985, in Columbus, OH, while Doug Kurtis and Karen Hubbard, both in their forties, won in Detroit.
