The insurer company would want to minimize the boat's value and its own exposure in case of an accident and hence the insurance company will not cover the entire damages but pay only for a certain part of it. It is suggested that the insurance policy and the company offering it must be properly studied.

The number of American boats cruising abroad is declining bringing cruising within financial reach among many Americans. Some of the underlying factors responsible for this decrease include the explosive growth in the US stock market, the weaker dollar, and widespread early-retirement programs.
