Second-ranked Martina Hingis defeated top player Lindsay Davenport to win the 1998 Chase Championships of the Corel Women's Tennis Assn Tour at the New York's Madison Square Garden. Hingis had 55 winners and only 27 unforced errors, compared to Davenport's 57 winners and 39 unforced errors.

A major case of bad attitude

Article Abstract:

The claim by top tennis players that the only thing that matters is the Grand Slams is erroneous. For example, Pete Sampras would not have finished the year at the top if not for his wins at the weekly tour events. Moreover, the smaller competitions contribute to a champion's development.
