Nature Fakers--Then and Now

Article Abstract:

Naturalist John Burroughs attacked other naturalists whom he thought misrepresented nature, and sentimentalized animals. Reverend William J. Long was criticized especially harshly for humanizing animals, and Long did not use any science in his arguments.
