Kim Clijsters' easygoing personality was blamed for her failure to win a major title but in September 2005 she won her first Slam title, the US Open. In 2002, Clijsters won the season-ending WTA Championships and finished the year No.4 and in 2003 she was a finalist at the French Open and US Open and briefly reached No. 1, the first woman to do so without a major title.
