Texas Instruments and Hughes Aircraft have jointly adopted infrared technology to create a product known as Nightsight to help boatowners pilot in the dark by giving them the equivalent of night vision. The product does not operate under foggy conditions but works well in rain.

A yachtsman participating in a sailfishing competition was the target of a practical joke. An unknown prankster loaded several bunches of bananas onto his yacht as he slept. Bananas are considered to be bad luck for yachtsmen, and no one on his boat caught any sailfish.
