Runner Keith Brantly has steadily improved his marathon credentials to the point where he has a good chance of making the US Olympic team in 1996. Brantly, who is also a sailing enthusiast, initially ran shorter races, and then began to become serious about marathons in the early 1990s.

Garcia's grit

The Mexican track federation forbade Garcia from running in the 1991 New York City Marathon, but then relented. He responded by winning the event. In post-race comments, he pointed out the current domination of Mexican runners.
