Golfer Ben Hogan believes that the 1942 Hale America National Open was his fifth US Open championship. The United States Golf Association does not agree, since it cancelled its championships for the duration of World War II.

Oh, to be in England: the first British Open played on English soil helped to launch the legend of The Triumvirate

Article Abstract:

J.H. Taylor won the 1894 British Open at Royal St George's, the first one played in England. Taylor, Harry Vardon and James Braid dominated the Open for the following 20 years and became known as The Triumvirate.
