Precious medal

Article Abstract:

An American runner competes in the 1976 Olympic Marathon, finishing in fourth place, out of medal contention. Years later he learns that the winner of the race had been taking performance-enhancing drugs, and he embarks on a fight to strip him of his medal and take the bronze for himself.

Runners gather before dawn at the steep trail that provides the setting for the gruelling 100-mile race. Ann Trason, 33, was neck-in-neck a good deal of the time with Tarahumara Indian Juan Herrera, who eventually beat her. She came in second.
