The 1998 Rim Rock Run has a special permit to conduct the race Nov. 14, but the battle with the National Park Service and Colorado Monument for future permits lingers. Monument superintendent Steve Hickman and race director Katie Hill continue to lock horns over runners' access to the park.

Silva anniversary
Article Abstract:
The Nov 1994 race marked the 25th anniversary of the New York City Marathon, and Fred Lebow, who died of brain cancer, was missed. Silva nearly lost the race when he accidentally veered off in the wrong direction. Several of the racers are profiled.

Liberal, Kansas began holding the pancake race to compete with Olney, England after World War Two. The Olney race began in 1445. Each town has had 21 wins since the Shrove Tuesday race began.
