Round the buoys: sailing downwind

Sailboat racing rules governing boats when they round the buoys and onto the first free leg are presented. Situations concerning boat-to-boat encounters are given so that sailors who are racing or want to race can avoid rule violations.

Article Abstract:
Rules on how sailboats should approach and round the jibe mark are explained. The boats use conventional spinnaker poles and make end-for-end jibes.
