Article Abstract:

The use of a 4.0-ltr V-6 engine in the Mercury Mountaineer sport-utility vehicle was tested and compared with the standard 5.0-ltr V-8 engine. Results showed that only a noisy engine during high acceleration indicated a smaller engine but otherwise power and performance are sufficient.
