A runner will benefit if training is cut-down in the correct way. Emil Zatopek's hospital stay before he won in the 1950 Olympics illustrated this. Runners who cut their distance from 50 to 15 miles a week and still ran the usual 5 days at a fast pace, gained several advantages. Stamina and heart beat rate increased.
