The hidden condition

Article Abstract:

Undergoing medical exams is a must for divers because it could uncover medical problems at an early stage. Early detection is an advantage because it provides divers better odds for a positive outcome. Aside from having regular medical exams, physical fitness should be improved and maintained by divers. When filling up medical forms, honesty should be exercised. If medical conditions are contraindicated to scuba diving, such as circulatory or respiratory problems, divers should not go through. Instead, they should consult first with their physicians.

BC survival skills: how to make a safe ascent

Article Abstract:

Making a safe ascent with a buoyancy compensator (BC) depends on how the equipment is used. Six techniques for ascending safely with the use of a BC is presented. These include signaling and checking instruments with a diving buddy before attempting to ascent, attaining neutral buoyancy before leaving the bottom, venting the BC while ascending, monitoring the rate of ascent, controling the ascent with the BC and staying alert during the ascent.

Drugs, disease and diving

Article Abstract:

Diving accidents are often associated with respiratory problems, embolism, heart problems and drug use. It is important then to consider physical fitness before diving. One must not feel obliged to dive when feeling seasick. Breathing should be done in a relaxed and slow manner and with emphasis on exhaling. Ascension must also be done slowly and control over buoyancy must be maintained. More importantly, use of illegal drugs should be avoided.
