Four well-known cookbook authors, Mollie Katzen, Martha Rose Shulman, Deborah Madison, and Annie Somerville, gathered in Bolinas, CA, to promote the benefits of vegetarian diets. The authors continue to believe that food should be a pleasure, but that vegetarian dishes can supply that pleasure.

Closing in on cancer

Article Abstract:

Some 112 anti-cancer drugs are in the final testing stages in the late 1990s, while the National Cancer Institute is backing an additional 200 drug trials. These efforts constitute the best hope for cancer victims, and four of the most promising therapies are described.

So-called 'alternative therapies,' once attracted only a small following, but many in the mainstream have begun to advocate practices such as acupuncture, massage, and meditation. Such practices frequently seem to offer something that is lacking in Western medicine.
