Article Abstract:

Rob Pike made a seven-year voyage from the Canadian Maritimes thorugh the St Lawrence Seaway, the Great Lakes and the rivers of the Midwest. He started with a 34-ft Pembroke cruiser and ended with a 1971 HiLiner. He did most of the boat repairs himself, keeping yearly costs to about $12,000 to $15,000.

Boater Larry Graf and his companions travelled 1,328 nautical miles from Hawaii to Midway Island. He and his crew utilized an outboard boat fitted with Furuno electronics and Cetrek automatic pilot systems. The boat consumed 865 gallons of fuel and cruised at 22 knots.
