The significance of intensity and duration of exercise on natural immunity in rats

Article Abstract:

This article examines the effects of voluntary wheel running on the natural immune function of spontaneously hypertensive rats. Results indicate that the overall running distance and duration of training is associated with significant improvements in natural immune function but rest periods during prolonged training help to maintain the beneficial effects.

Postexercise immune correlates in children with and without cystic fibrosis

Article Abstract:

This study examines the postexercise immune response of children with cystic fibrosis by measuring catecholamine, insulin, and cortisol levels, examining white blood cell counts, and by testing lung function. Results indicate that immune system modulation following exercise is correlated with age, cortisol and norepinephrine levels, and disease severity.

Energy metabolism during anaerobic exercise in children with cystic fibrosis and asthma

Article Abstract:

A study comparing the oxygen uptake kinetics during anaerobic exercise of healthy children with those suffering from cystic fibrosis and asthma is described, and the kinetics appeared similar for all three groups. The caveat is that abnormalities in energy metabolism may exist for cystic fibrosis sufferers during exercise.
