A sailing boat on the wind needs a touch of weather helm to help give her lift upwind in order to minimize leeway. For motorsailing in easy conditions, the propeller's thrust negates the natural laws and does away with much of the leeway the boat would be making under sail.

Waterlines: Losing your MacCool

Article Abstract:

An adventurous cruise trip along the wild northwest of Ireland is described that was interrupted when the boat hit a rock due to improper reading of the chart. It is suggested that the chart must be read with proper concentration in order to avoid such accidents.
