Best-selling author Verghese's new book 'The Tennis Partner,' relates his friendship with one of his medical students at Texas Tech University. His friend was the Australian tennis player David Smith who quit and became Verghese's ideal tennis partner. Smith committed suicide.

The USTA's balancing act
Article Abstract:
The USTA will build a new, state-of-the-art $227 million stadium in Queens, NY, to house the US Open. The new stadium is designed to heighten participation and interest in tennis. The other managerial programs of the USTA were discussed.
