The versatile shooting retriever

A meeting of dog trainers, who gathered to study the effectiveness of retrievers as upland bird hunters, is described. Retrievers are normally thought of in connection with waterfowl but, as the trials at the meeting proved, retrievers can also be counted upon for hunting upland birds.

Water love

Retrievers have webbed feet and can swim, but it is still important to instill 'water love' in them. One technique to develop this trait is to force a dog to retrieve from a spot where he cannot run along the bank before entering the water.
