Article Abstract:
Meriwether Lewis hired Drewyer in 1803 to accompany the expedition ordered by Thomas Jefferson to explore the land gained in the Louisiana Purchase. Drewyer, a rugged outdoorsman, was the chief hunter, shooting elk, beaver, bear, buffalo and other meat for the 46-man party.
