Unprofessional practice? The status and power of sport physicians

Article Abstract:

The role and working practice of rugby club doctors in England is examined, attempting to highlight the peculiar character of sports medicine. It is argued that this phenomenon can be understood only by looking at the structure of the sports medicine profession, the specificities of the rugby club as a workplace setting and the relationships club doctors have with clients.

Experiments in pro wrestling: toward a performative and sensuous sport ethnography

Article Abstract:

This article examines ethnographic technique within sports research within the framework of professional wrestling. It is posited that a performative approach is superior due to its recognition of the ethnographic subject's agency and openness to a wide range of sensorial experience.

The vocation of sport sociology

The contribution of each essay to the development of sport sociology is discussed. It is suggested that the theoretical understanding of sport sociology helps to define its political implications.
