Many people take daily vitamin and mineral supplements, but the practice can be expensive unless the buyer is willing to shop for bargains. For example, discounts, store brands, and bigger bottles can save money, calcium can be obtained through antacids, and 'natural' vitamins are usually unnecessary.

Should Congress curb the FDA's power over drugs, vitamins, and medical devices?

Some believe that the FDA is overly cautious and employs cumbersome drug-approval procedures that endanger health by their delay. However, others believe the FDA is being responsible, and a that a greater risks lies in rushing the approval of questionable drugs.

Cracking down on deceptive drug ads

Article Abstract:

The Food and Drug Administration requires advertising honesty about drug effectiveness and side effects, however these requirements are often not complied with. A study of 109 drug ads found that 92% violated the regulations.
