The Santa Barbara-based schooner Spike Africa is also being marketed as venue for any ocean-going event.

Several developments concerning boats and boating in the Western States as of Apr 1998 are presented. California Gov Pete Wilson included nearly $60 million for the Dept of Boating and Waterways in the 1998 budget. Moreover, Mexican authorities threatened to scrap the 'SS Catalina.'
