Article Abstract:
All-comers track meets have become a tradition in Eugene, OR, where runners of all ages and skill levels compete against each other in an otherwise relaxed atmosphere. These track meets were the brainchild of Bill Bowerman, who wanted to provide motivation for runners to compete year-round.

Article Abstract:
Local and amateur road races are as popular as ever, with millions participating every year, but professional road racing organizations need revamping. They need to develop an identity separate from amateur competitions and stage at least 20-30 events per year.

Howie ran a remarkable distance of 4,533 miles in 2 1/2 months during a solo race in 1991. He ran an average of 100 kilometers a day. The Runner's World Trans America Footrace will cover 2,800 miles.
