Reconstruction of multiband signals using irregular sampling
Article Abstract:
Shannon's famous sampling theorem states that a signal band-limited to W could be reconstructed from its samples spaced by 1/2W. The reconstruction of multiband signals is demonstrating using regular and irregular sampling. Only certain bands of sampling are allowed when the sampling is uniform, although random samplings result in accurate reconstruction for all rates above the Nyquist-Landau rate. Landau's result is derived through a simple argument based on a matrix reconstruction method and numerical simulation. This shows that irregular sampling provides flexibility when sampling multiband signals.

System failure statistics: some asymptotic formulae
Article Abstract:
If a system fails randomly and a period of down time is incurred, this is associated with each failure and assumed to be statistically independent and identically distributed. Statistical distribution p(x) is not generally precisely known, but can be estimated. It is interesting then to analyzed the distribution of total costs, D, in a given amount of time, T. An approach is reported, that uses Laplace transform theory to provide an asymptotic distribution of D, where costs is Gamma-distributed and failure process is Poisson.

An introduction to Shannon sampling and interpolation theory with generalizations to nonuniform sampling
Article Abstract:
The main impact of Shannon's theorem on information theory and digital signal processing, is that it enables a continuous band-limited signal to be replaced by a discrete sequence, without loss of information. Shannon's theorem is discussed and the contour integral approach of Helms and Thomas to the problem of truncation error bounds is considered. Applications include data compression, communications, and optical image reconstruction.
