Friends and family: implications for youth tractor safety

Article Abstract:

A survey of 235 Future Farmers of America members in Illinois reveals a need for further improvement in the safety practices of young tractor operators in the area. Young operators must always use rollover protective structures and seat belts and they must also be strict in preventing extra riders from getting on the tractor. To address the issue of tractor operation by farm boys as early as seven to nine years of age, parents need to be informed about the mental and physical development level required for the safe operation of tractors.
