An exploratory investigation of the crash involvement of disqualified drivers and motorcyclists
Article Abstract:
Victoria, Australia had a traffic crash fatality rate of 1.35 per 10,000 registered vehicles in 1994, and the relatively low rate is due to road safety measures backed by media campaigns. An investigation into the crash involvement of drivers disqualified from driving was made, using a database of reported injury crashes. It found that disqualified road users accounted for 1% of drivers involved in injury crashes, and there was an over-involvement in high severity crashes, indicating that disqualified road users represent a higher risk of serious-crash involvement and injury, compared to other road users.

Increasing seat belt use through PI&E and enforcement: the Thumbs Up campaign
Article Abstract:
The Thumbs Up project was initiated to increase the use of seat belts by drivers. Two counties in Florida were chosen for the project. Researchers found that seat belt use campaigns were not as effective in large, uncontrolled geographic areas as in controlled, primary enforcement ones. Both public information and education (PI&E) and enforcement are essential for a campaign to be successful.
