Arresting powers
Article Abstract:
Maritime states are revising the legal constraints of ship arrest which was set up in 1952 under the Arrest Convention and was enforced in 1956. Some countries favor the 1952 Convention and consider it as efficient even without revising it. Proposed revisions of the Convention have created arguments regarding exhaustive versus indicative lists of maritime claims. An exhaustive list is a complete and closed list of the reasons that can justify an arrest while indicative list is an open-ended list defining the types of offences that may cause the arrest of a ship.

Cabling - the essentials and trade offs
Article Abstract:
The increased use of electronic equipment and sensors has increased the size and complexity of shipboard cables. The extensive use of cables increases the risks of shipboard fires. The selection of conductors and insulation for ship cables takes into consideration temperature rise, flammability, voltage and current carrying capacity. The accepted standard for selecting conductors and insulation is that the cable will be installed in an area where ambient temperature is 45 degrees Celsius.
