Buckling up for more robust ships

Article Abstract:

The minimum buckling criteria for decks, bottoms and girders are the strength of the robust ships and when a situation comes where a ship breaks in two the criteria fall short, which encouraged owners and class to cooperate in the development of new rules to more robust tankers. For this reason DNV, ABS and LR are undertaking a main supporting structure analysis that aims to develop rules that account for limited maintenance and result in ships that have a minimum 25-year lifespan.
