Winning ways

Article Abstract:

Germany's shipbuilding industry remains highly competitive despite the country's strong currency and the reduction of the working week to 35 hours. This can be attributed to the massive changes introduced by shipbuilders which are aimed at increasing the industry's productivity by up to 40% in 1998. Such changes include the rejuvenation of old shipyards, the implementation of improved production methods and the creation of new joint venture alliances.
