Depletion dilemma

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the base number depletion in engine oils are discussed. Particular consideration is given to the optimal top-up ratio which may be utilised in order to minimise the effects of base number depletion and so reduce the frequency of complete oil changes.

Article Abstract:

Developments in the design of turbochargers in order to improve engine performance and efficiency are discussed. The effect of bigger engines, such as the MAN B&W 18-cylinder engines, on the number and power of turbochargers is examined.

New challenges for oils

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the relationship between oil, fuel and engine design are presented. Particular reference is made both to the effects of sulphur in fuel, and the use of anti-polishing piston rings.
