Emission control
Article Abstract:
Marine-generated exhaust emissions can be blamed partly on factors beyond the control of a ship's crew. These include the poor design of the vessel's machinery, substandard and contaminated bunkers, and local pollution regulations that are unrealistic. However, the crew can still adopt certain measures to minimize pollution, such as proper maintenance of the ship's fuel and combustion system and regular cleaning of the fuel and lub oil separators. Some of the new techniques for dealing with exhaust emissions are discussed.
