Employers' knowledge of the hazard communication standard requirements and the perceived barriers to compliance
Article Abstract:
The compliance of the Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) can be improved if employers use health and safety assistance from sources, such as insurance companies, state programs and safety organizations. The lack of staff to execute the HCS program leads to noncompliance of the HCS rules. Findings suggest that adequate information for written program requirements and information regarding training to the employees fail to reach the employers. Further, Rules of the Occupational Safety and Health Safety Administration are not met by employers.

The possible causes of accidental falls in the workplace that have resulted to death are examined using the fatality inspection records of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The trades that had lower death rates due to falls include the electrical work trade, the masonry trade and the roofing trade. These accidents can be prevented through employee training, installation of fall protection systems and the identification of possible fall hazards.
