Estimating the costs of injury to U.S. employers
Article Abstract:
Recent national expenditure data were used to make top-down estimates of the costs of workplace injuries for companies. Findings indicate that employers incur injury-related costs of about $200 billion every year, including around $155 billion for workplace injuries and $45 billion for off-the-job injuries. It was also found that worker injury accounts for nearly a fourth of companies' health-care costs and slightly less than half of their disability costs.
