Graduated driver licensing research in 2003 and beyond

The comprehensive summary of graduated driver licensing(GDL), which was published in January 2003 special issue of the Journal of Safety Research, is updated. The research provides information about specific GDL implementation issues and roles of parents and driver education in teenagers safety driving.

Graduated driver licensing: the New Zealand experience
Article Abstract:
A three-stage graduated driver licensing (GDL) system that applied to all new drivers aged 15-24 years was introduced in New Zealand, on 1 August 1987. The essential elements of GDL were a 6-month learner license and an 18-month restricted license stage.
