Concern over challenge in maneuvering large liquefied gas carriers has encouraged training courses for ship pilots and tugboat masters. These training courses aim to improve ship handling and communication skills, and situational awareness of pilot. Details on several training courses are discussed.

New York-based MarineSafety International conducted a ship-handling course for ship pilots from the Dominican Republic. The pilots were taught how to handle traffic situations, arrival and departure, handling, and maneuvering.
