Livestock carrier joins specialist fleet

Article Abstract:

Scheepswerf Van Diepen has delivered the livestock carrier "Devon Express" to Vroon BV's subsidiary, Vroon Australia Pty. The new vessel will join the fleet of commercial manager Livestock Express which has 15 livestock carriers in its service. The new ship boasts a host of sophisticated features which include a reverse osmosis plant which produces 70t of potable water a day. The carrier has a deck area of 3,300 square meters and can accomodate some 2,100 heads of cattle. Power is provided by one MaK 6M552C engine which produces 4,050 kW and a speed of 17 knots.

Knossos Palace: Fincantieri rises to the challenge

Article Abstract:

The design of the roro ferry 'Knossos Palace' for Minoan Lines by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri is examined. The challenges of the design, which required capacity for 2200 passengers, highest standards of safety, speeds of 31.5 knots and luxurious interiors, are described.
