Ship repair companies in Turkey have been attracting works from various countries, especially major steelwork jobs. One major factor for the increasing market in the region is the competitive rates, that is, Turkish prices are far cheaper than other Mediterranean yards. Gemak has been receiving significant volumes of international contracts. The company attributes its increasing market to its modern facilities.

East Coast yards convert to repair work

Shiprepair yards in the East Coast are undergoing several significant changes in response to a particularly good market. The growing demand in offshore related work is resulting to a wide range of repair, re-activation and conversion activity. Some shipyards are restructuring into commercial repair, including the old Tampa Bay yard, Detyens in Charleston and the Kvaerner in Philadelphia naval yard.
