Orders continue to flow

Article Abstract:

The demand for cruise ship newbuildings is growing, as cruise companies in the USA, Europe and Asia continue to order more cruise ships. Six vessels, worth about $2 bil, are currently being ordered by cruise companies Carnival Cruise Line, Holland America, and Costa. Star Cruises has also announced its plans of ordering two more ships that are about 85,000g with a passenger capacity of arund 1,8000 passengers. The cruise companies, while waiting for their orders, are experiencing income growth from their present fleet.

Private yards want Pendik

Article Abstract:

The privatization of Turkey's state-owned shipbuilding industry is being hindered by the government's indecisiveness regarding the sale of Pendik Shipyard and Heavy Industry Works. The Turkish government had previously agreed to sell the company to Gestas but reversed its decision following bids from other entities. Other yards which are also being targeted for acquisition by these groups are the Marmara Transport Shipbuilding and Construction Inc. and Sedef.

Boxed in ports plan for expansion

Article Abstract:

The expansion plans of container terminals at Southampton, UK, and the Port of Rotterdam, to cope with rising demand for container space, are described. The proposed facilities, berth numbers, depths, cranage, and road and rail improvements are examined.
